Restoring functional soundness

Retraining for biomechanical integrity

The program at Seven Hills combines progressive movement and coordinated therapeutic support to help horses regain strength, balance, and confidence. Rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, each plan is tailored to the horse’s history and current physical state.

The transition to performance

Specialized ridden rehabilitation

At Seven Hills, we specialize in the transitional phase between clinical healing and a return to regular work. This critical period occurs after a horse is cleared by a veterinarian but before they possess the coordination and postural integrity required for their previous workload.

Our approach to ridden rehabilitation is rooted in gymnastic development and movement retraining. We address the subtle compensations and lack of postural strength that often persist after the initial healing phase. By prioritizing correct biomechanical patterns, we ensure the horse develops a stable, balanced foundation for a return to performance.

Eligibility:  We are a training and development facility. All horses entering the program must be cleared by their veterinarian for active movement. We do not provide stall rest or medical management.

Services & coordinated support

  • Focused training sessions designed to restore symmetry, straightness, and correct muscle engagement once a horse is cleared for a rider.

  • Biomechanics-informed lunging and work-in-hand to develop postural strength, coordination, and core stability without the weight of a rider.

  • Used selectively to encourage correct use of the topline, improved postural balance, and functional core engagement. These systems support gymnastic development, increased carrying power, and improved self-carriage through progressive application.

  • Targeted sensory input through the hoof to support balance, body awareness, and neuromuscular coordination, contributing to improved postural organization and movement quality.

  • Used to support circulation, muscle activation, and overall comfort during rehabilitation, particularly when horses are rebuilding strength or managing periods of limited exercise.

  • Incorporated to support mobility, flexibility, and balanced muscle function, helping maintain healthy range of motion and support tissue recovery throughout rehabilitation.

  • Used strategically to support comfort, circulation, and tissue recovery. Cold therapy and compression may be applied to manage inflammation, while heat and red-light therapy are used to encourage muscle relaxation and preparation for movement.

  • Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) is used to support comfort, circulation, and recovery, improving soft-tissue relaxation, blood flow, and overall tissue health..

  • Used to support tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and promote circulation at a cellular level, assisting recovery and comfort during rehabilitation.

  • Applied strategically to support soft-tissue function, proprioception, and postural awareness, assisting movement support and comfort during rehabilitation and return to work.

  • Used to support pain management, neuromuscular balance, and tissue health when appropriate within a rehabilitation or conditioning program.

  • Integrated selectively to support joint mobility, alignment, and musculoskeletal function in service of sound movement and long-term comfort.

  • Incorporated to support soft-tissue health, relaxation, recovery, and overall comfort.

  • Considered as part of rehabilitation planning to support comfort, symmetry, and correct movement as horses return to work.

  • Integrated into rehabilitation planning to support alignment, comfort, and long-term soundness, with evaluation and support adjusted as needed when hoof care is a contributing factor.

Clinical integration

Seven Hills is co-located with the Kinetic Equine Medicine Soundness Center, providing on-site access to veterinary expertise and advanced diagnostic insight when needed. This close partnership supports clear communication and informed decision-making, while rehabilitation work remains coordinated with the horse’s existing professional team.

We work collaboratively with veterinarians and professionals who recognize that clinical healing is only the first step. Our role is to support a defined phase of functional development, returning the horse to their home program with improved strength, movement quality, and a more durable foundation for work.
